In order to have success with teaching sign language to a learner on the autism spectrum, it is essential that you follow a specific step by step process.
Without this process, you risk teaching your child or student signs that have no meaning, repetitive behaviors, and what we call "defective manding" (basically requests that seem to be for one thing but are actually for something else). If you are not teaching sign language the "right" way, it's best to avoid using it all together.
In Module 2, you will learn how to teach adapted sign language using a specific, step by step, evidence-based process.

Module 3 is all about tracking progress!
It is essential to track progress so you know where you little learner is moving forward and where he or she is getting stuck.

Building communication skills using sign language is so rewarding! You will see your child or student start to communicate - possibly for the first time ever and that is such a beautiful thing.
In Module 4, I will go over FAQs and also some potential areas where individuals who are learning sign language may get stuck and need a little extra help.
As you continue with your sign language journey, you'll be able to come back to this module any time you need a little extra guidance or encouragement.

This course is for any special needs parent or professional who wants to better understand how to help their little learners. Although I created the course with children with autism in mind, the information in the course will help you if you are interacting with children with a variety of special needs. I personally work with children with ADHD, Prader Will Syndrome, Williams Syndrome and a variety of other special needs and have experience using everything I teach in the course to help children with various special needs progress.

I have a teenager at home. Can I still use these workbooks?
The information included in the course will help you teach individuals on the autism spectrum or with other special needs regardless of age.

I want my child to speak. Won't teaching adapted sign language keep my child/student from learning to use words to communicate?
Absolutely not! Although I can understand why you may feel concerned about this, research shows that learning sign language actually improves the chance of learning verbal communication. Learning sign language also improves the quality of verbal communication.
